How to choose decor for your event

I believe that some of the most fun aspects of planning an event include planning the decor. Not all events require decor, but as a standard rule you should try and create a theme and choose appropriate decor no matter what. The entire event should have a theme so that the guests and attendees feel that there is something cohesive and complete about the event from start to finish. How do you decide on decor and a theme for your event? Easy!

First- choose TYPE of event. Weddings are different than corporate events. What are you planning? Does the theme need to be business or pleasure? This is a great starting point.

Second- does your venue have decor available? Some places have decor that has been left or decor that your venue has purchased available for you to use. There likely are some things you can use and then add your own decor to supplement.

Third- what colors will represent your event? This doesn't seem very important, but colors we see are used to convey emotions even if we don't realize it. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe studied this (read about this more here: https://www.brainpickings.org/2012/08/17/goethe-theory-of-colours/ ) and it should play into how you choose your pieces. If you want to convey excitement, perhaps choosing vibrant colors like reds make us feel warm and glad while blues are more calming and serene.

There are so many more questions you'll uncover as you continue to plan- but at least this gives you a few key questions to ask yourself to plan out your event decor. The options really are endless, and dare to think outside the box!
